GMB, the union that represents workers at Sheffield Waste Management Service, Veolia, has expressed its total dismay at the company’s move to undermine the workers’ strike for fair pay.
GMB members undertaking their first half-day of industrial action on Monday (8 November) in Sheffield have voted to escalate industrial action in response to Veolia management busting the bank to bring in agency staff over the weekend to undermine their current intermittent strike action.
Notice has been served on the employer to escalate the dispute in two weeks - to an all-out strike on the 22 November.
Lee Parkinson, GMB Organiser, said:
“Veolia need to stop spending a fortune trying to break this strike using out of town labour and get back to the table to negotiate an end to this dispute.
“The Council can order that now and need to if they want to avoid this battle turning into a war.”
