GMB Union tells Sheffield door manufacturer, JELD-WEN, the only way to avoid industrial action is to listen to its workforce and get back round the negotiating table.
Last month workers at JELD-WEN voted to reject a 4.8 per cent pay deal.
Workers will now take part in an indicative ballot to decide whether they want to take strike action if management fails to increase the pay offer or make improvements to sick pay.
In a further blow, workers have also been told that the company intends to ‘close the door’ on collective bargaining and has served notice to derecognise the union.
JELD-WEN has net assets worth £161 million.
GMB members will hold a protest outside the factory gates on Thursday, 13 June from 12 noon in protest over the company’s actions.
GMB Organiser, Joe Wheatley, said:
“Rather than return to the negotiating table, management has refused to negotiate any further and served the union with a derecognition notice.
“It’s disappointing that management has opted for a ‘my way or the highway’ approach.
“GMB members are outraged over the company’s actions and will be holding a protest to voice their anger.”
