Hope not hate tour of Britain

4 Mar 2008

To reflect Britain’s diversity, Searchlight, the anti-fascist and anti-racist magazine, organised a HOPE not Hate tour of the country. Their famous old Routemaster bus set off from London and finished its journey in Glasgow. It travelled the length and breadth of Britain as part of a celebration of the rich tapestry that makes up our country. The bus stopped in over 30 places where local activities were organised and local traditions were celebrated.

The bus visited Sheffield, Keighley, Bradford and Cleckheaton, linking up with members, staff and officers of GMB in Yorkshire & North Derbyshire region.  A canvas was stretched out for people to write their message of peace and tolerance.  MPs and Cllrs from across the region joined the tour bus to help celebrate Britain’s diversity and to promote harmony.

Steve Jennings, GMB Political Officer commented: This is a message against racism and a way forward for the diverse make-up of our communities.  I would urge members of our society to ensure they vote for proper politicians and not those who promote poisonous politics of racist hate and division.
