GMB Union warn that ‘Blue Monday’ won’t begin or end today as the campaign for pay justice rumbles on in the city.
Research conducted by the GMB's Women's Campaign Unit, identified an equal pay campaign in Sheffield City Council rooted in discrimination within the Job Evaluation Scheme.
Thousands of women are potentially affected across all salary grades.
This 'Blue Monday' GMB are highlighting the urgent need to resolve the dispute, releasing an animation on how pay injustice impacts upon women across the city.
GMB are engaging in positive negotiations with Sheffield City Council on remedying the issue, alongside running a member campaign to highlight the injustice.
Jake O'Malley, GMB Organiser, said:
“On the most miserable day of the year, GMB are asking Sheffield City Council to resolve our members equal play claims.
“Every day that these women are denied the pay they are owed is a ‘Blue day’.
“Sheffield must learn the lessons of Birmingham, and right this wrong as soon as possible.
“To do anything less would be letting the whole of the City down.”
