In Defence Of Public Services

IN DEFENCE OF PUBLIC SERVICES

The Tory-Lib Dem cuts to public services are vindictive and wrong. The Coalition Government is attacking the services it took years of Labour investment to rebuild. This cannot go unchallenged.

GMB is a campaigning union and we must be at the forefront of the fight to defend our public services. There needs to be major workplace campaigns mounted across the country to stop the mindless destruction of jobs and services.  Our job is to speak to as many staff affected as possible, tell them GMB thinks these cuts are wrong and unfair and let them know what we plan to do about it where they work.

Commission issues county court proceedings against the BNP

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has today issued county court proceedings against the British National Party in respect of its constitution and membership criteria. The court has set a date of Wednesday 2 September for a hearing for the Commission’s application for an injunction against the BNP.

THIRD DAY OF STRIKE ACTION FOR REFUSE WORKERS IN LEEDS CITY COUNCIL

Refuse and street cleansing workers in Leeds took strike action for the third consecutive week in support of equal pay for low paid women and against the authority’s attempt to take up to £6,000 per year from 2,500 of their workers – 1,000 women and 1,500 men. Angry GMB members wish to convey their frustration to elected members and highly paid bureaucrats.

Chesterfield Town FC Kick-Off in Style

Chesterfield Town under 8’s are very proud to show off their new strip which is sponsored by GMB.  The squad was formed for the 2007/08 season and play in the Rowsley and Youth District League.

They are currently sitting in a mid table position in their very first season.  Their manager, Carl Rimmington, is also the GMB workplace representative at Veolia Environmental Services and he manages the team in his spare time.  Carl said, “It is an honour to manage these passionate youngsters and very rewarding I am confident they will do well in the league.” GMB wishes the team the best of luck for the rest of the season.
