GMB BACKS JO COX CHARITY RUN

The 2024 Run for Jo, in memory of Jo Cox, the Batley and Spen MP who was murdered in her constituency in 2016, is now in its eighth year.

The event takes place on Sunday, 23 June 2024 at Oakwell Hall in Birstall, West Yorkshire.

Organisers hope a record number of people will take part.

It will be one of the key events of The Great Get Together which will be taking place during the same weekend.

Kat Fletcher, GMB Head of Campaigns in North East, Yorkshire & Humber region, said:

“We are very honoured at GMB to be part of the Jo Cox charity run, in memory of Jo.

"Jo was a GMB member, and like Jo, we believe that by communities coming together in unity, we can help create a more tolerant and united society.

“We stand in solidarity with all those that have our views and values, as we try to make the world a better and more equal place in Jo's memory.

Kim Leadbeater, sister of Jo Cox and MP for Batley and Spen, said:

“It’s great to see the return of Run for Jo 2024 at Oakwell Hall in Birstall and to have GMB Union back as our headline sponsor.

“It is such a special event in the local calendar and remains a centrepiece of the Great Get Together campaign from The Jo Cox Foundation.

“With the 6.5km cross-country run and 2.5km family fun run plus the hilarious Mascot Race, stalls and entertainment, there is something for everyone at Run for Jo.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the power of our local community.

“I want to say a huge thank you to the GMB Union for their continued support and to the volunteers from More in Common, Batley and Spen for organising what I know will be another great day.”
