Join GMB trade union for a charity ‘static’ bike ride which will cover more than 210 miles across the region and at the same time raise valuable funds for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
On Friday 6th October, GMB members, representatives and staff from across Yorkshire will aim to raise as much money as possible for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund by taking part in a static bike ride in the Jubilee Wing at Leeds General Infirmary.
Children's Heart Surgery Fund supports children born with congenital heart disease across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
A team of 12, led by GMB official Stacey Booth, will undertake the challenge in the shortest time possible and will be cycling 210 miles on a virtual tour of Yorkshire's hospitals. The Dewsbury Rams mascot will be putting in a guest appearance on the day and it is hoped that the team will be supported through the encouragement of the general public and donations.
Commenting, Stacey Booth, said: “I'd been listening to Heart FM and their 30 in 30 charity appeal event, which is part of Global's Make Some Noise, when I heard that the nominated local charity was the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, so I was keen to show my support and get involved in some way. Being GMB lead officer for the NHS it seemed fitting to do a virtual bike ride round all the hospitals in the region where GMB has membership.”
"So if you’re feeling fit why not come and join us, knock-out a mile or two and help raise some cash for this fantastic cause."
