GMB Fundraiser For Local Food Bank

A social evening, sponsored by GMB, Britain’s General Union, was held at the Aakash Restaurant in Cleckheaton on Tuesday, 20th October 2015 in aid of Batley Food Bank.

The GMB union hosted a Politics and Curry night to raise awareness and support for food banks but also to highlight the reason behind their rising demand. The event was also used as a collection point for food donations for the food bank in Batley.

Keynote speakers included Sandra Major, co-founder of Batley Food Bank, Tim Roache Regional Secretary from the GMB Union, David Sheard Leader of Kirklees Council and Jawad Khan GMB young member.

Event organiser Cath Pinder said: “It was a fantastic evening, with inspirational speeches and a great curry.  Over £400 was raised and a mountain of food was donated by GMB members and friends.  It is a scandal that we need food banks in this day and age but the GMB recognise the life line that they offer and will continue to support food banks in any way we can.”

Special thanks to Batley Bulldogs, Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers, Jo Cox MP for Batley and Spen, Aakash Restaurant  and Tesco for their support.
