GMB Save Our Steel - Rally In Sheffield, Saturday 21st November 2015

As you will be aware the Steel industry in the UK is in real crisis, with massive job losses taking place with the closure of the SSI plant in Redcar, redundancies in Tata Steel in Scunthorpe and the potential closure of the plants in Scotland on top of job losses which will take place in Rotherham and redundancies and closures in Caparo Industries.

Rally In Sheffield City Hall - Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall (S1 2JA) 21st November at 2pm

The Steel unions, GMB, Unite and Community, have mounted a massive campaign to save jobs and force the Government to take action.

Make no mistake, if the unions had not mounted such a campaign, the Government and in particular the Secretary of State at BIS would not have called the Steel Summit, would not have gone to Brussels to meet with the EU on the crisis - their plan was to wring their hands and hope it would all go away.

Well, they were wrong. The lobby of Parliament, the recent rally and march in Scunthorpe and the demo in Brussels have helped galvanise steelworkers to fight back.

As part of our campaign the steel unions will be holding a mass rally for steelworkers and their families in Sheffield on November 21st. We have booked the City Hall in Sheffield and so the challenge is to pull out all the stops to fill the venue.

Speakers will include TUC General Secretary, Frances O’Grady, Union General Secretaries, MPs, Steel Worker Reps.

Thank you for your help and support.
