Company fanning the flames by not authorising annual leave, says GMB Union
Hundreds of workers at a company supplying goods for Hinkley Point C, EDF and BAE Rolls Royce will walk out today [Thursday]
Employees at Darchem Engineering, in Stillington, will down tools from 6am in a dispute over pay.
Striking workers turned down a pay deal of 6 per cent from 1 February, with a further 4 per cent from 1 October.
The deal also has a caveat of moving the pay anniversary from February to October making it a 20-month deal.
More than 300 workers will also take strike action on the following days:
- 4 July, from 6am for 24 hours
- 6 July, from 6am for 24 hours
- 11 July, from 6am for 24 hours
- 13 July, from 6am for 24 hours
Andrew Blunt, GMB Organiser, said:
“Workers at Darchem Engineering have been left with no choice but to strike.
“They have struggled to make ends meet through the worst cost of living crisis in a generation.
“And now, rather than seek a resolution to the dispute, the company are fanning the flames by not authorising annual leave.
“These are hardworking skilled engineers, who deserve better treatment from their employer.”
