LABOUR MEETING SLAMS GLASS TAX WHICH WILL DESTROY KNOTTINGLEY SAYS GMB UNION

Members of the Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley Constituency Labour Party (CLP) voted unanimously in favour of a resolution calling for the government to halt the proposed Glass Tax.

The resolution, which highlights the potential economic impact of the tax on the local glass industry and consumers, received full support from CLP members, during a recent meeting that included local MP, Rt Hon Yvette Cooper.

The Glass Tax has been criticised for disproportionately affecting glass manufacturers in Yorkshire, where glass production is a key component of the regional economy.

Yvette Cooper, who has represented the constituency since the 2024 General Election, was present at the meeting and listened to members’ concerns.

Darran Travis, GMB Union Organiser, said: “This unanimous vote sends a clear message: our community stands firmly against the Glass Tax.

“We urge our elected representatives to take this issue to Parliament and advocate for policies that support sustainable industry and protect local jobs.”

“The resolution will now be submitted to the regional Labour Party and shared with national policymakers, as part of a broader campaign to challenge the tax and promote alternative environmental strategies.”
