SHEFFIELD REFUSE WORKERS ASK THE UNITE UNION TO STOP THEIR CAMPAIGN OF HARASSMENT

Over one hundred and sixty workers at Lumley Street have signed a petition asking Unite members to stop their badgering of hard-working front-line staff.

GMB are the recognised trade union at Veolia Sheffield, over 85% of the refuse workers are members. Despite this Unite the Union are attempting to disrupt this recognition agreement,  which has delivered good, unionised jobs for decades.

Having failed to challenge the decision legally, and failed to make the case industrially activists are now actively harassing the workforce, using themselves as human shields to delay wagons leaving the yard. Workers have now had enough.

Jake O'Malley, GMB Organiser, said:

"Sheffield's refuse workers have had enough of this nonsense.

"Blocking our members getting out of the depot every morning is a desperate tactic from an organisation that claims to defend ordinary working people's jobs and conditions.

"Now is the time to recognise that Sheffield refuse staff have a strong trade union, and have had for over twenty four years, and let them get on with the job of serving the people of Sheffield."
