It is a long-held ambition for Sunderland to be a City where workers are paid at least £15 per hour.

On behalf of Sunderland Labour group we issue our support and solidarity to GMB members striking for £15 an hour at Stagecoach in Sunderland. 

Council Leader Cllr Graeme Miller said:

“I’m calling on Stagecoach to get back round the negotiating table and meet the reasonable demands of striking bus drivers.

“A boost in pay for bus drivers would bring them in line with other Heavy Goods Vehicle drivers in the city doing similar roles.

“Boosting pay doesn’t just make sense from a moral standpoint, it also makes sense from a business perspective.”
