TEESSIDE WIND FARM WORKERS TO STRIKE OVER PAY DEAL

Seah Wind, which has millions of pounds of investment funds underwritten by Government, will now face production delays, says GMB Union.

Workers at SeAH Wind have voted for strike action after rejecting the imposition of shift allowances and a below inflation and industry standards pay offer.

The ballot turnout was 80.42% - with 96.49% voting in favour to strike.

Seah hold significant contracts to deliver monopiles for the wind farms that the Government hope will deliver their net zero energy targets.

GMB Union recently won the right to union recognition, after 81% of the workforce supported the bid despite the company attempting to block the move.

Workers will now meet to discuss next steps with strike action anticipated this autumn.

Andrew Blunt, GMB Organiser, said:

“The future of Teesworks and UK energy must be built on decent working conditions, yet Seah Wind have consistently refused to get round the negotiating table.

“Workers have won the right to union recognition and are now demanding a fair wage for a fair day's work.

"The ballot results show that our members are clear - unless the employer gets back into serious talks our members will have no choice but to take strike action."
