GMB Union is telling Formica that it is only through listening to workers that strike action will be avoided.
GMB members at the iconic Formica site in North Shields are currently refusing to work overtime in a dispute over pay.
Last month 99.5% of the workforce voted to reject a 3.25% pay deal.
Despite the union's efforts, Formica management have refused to get back round the negotiating table.
The Formica Group has a worldwide turnover of more than £1 billion.
The action will now escalate to full strike action, commencing on 20 June.
Joyce Guthrie, GMB Organiser, said:
"Ironically for a company best known for its quality tables, Formica are currently refusing to sit down with workers and their union.
"For many years whole families have served this iconic North Shields business, only to be now let down by a corporate conglomerate.
"Our members will not tolerate being lowballed in their pay claim.
"Unless Formica get back round the table, we will have no choice but to take strike action."
