TOUGH NUT TO CRACK, BUT NEGOTIATIONS SEE ABOVE INFLATION PAY DEAL AT KP

GMB members working at KP Butterkist in Pontefract have voted to accept an above inflation pay deal for this year

Workers will receive:

  • 6.5% across all grades (backdated from 1 April 2024)
  • Official paid second break of 20 minutes.
  • Introduction of a Team Attendance Bonus with the potential of £350 per annum

After a lengthy, and at times challenging process that initially started in January 2024 with a Members’ Pay Survey, the GMB negotiating team that included GMB Organiser Darran Travis, GMB Reps Andy Griffiths and John Bond, delivered an above inflation pay award and significant fringe benefits that will improve the working conditions for members.

Darran Travis, said: “This has been a tough and challenging process, when you gauge were we have come from when we started.

“GMB members have shown solidarity and let the employer know that if concessions were not made, they would have been prepared to take industrial action, as demonstrated in a number of workplace ballots.

“I praise the work of the GMB Reps, Andy and John, who have made sure that membership density at KP Butterkist is high. We have kept members aware throughout this process of progress made.

“Whilst communicating with members it became clear from a significant number of people that stress and fatigue was an issue.  We have listened, and delivered a contractual 20-minute paid break that will benefit everyone.”
