Welcome to GMBmatters - Our Monthly News Update for GMB Members

Health & Safety Update: Working In Cold Temperatures - Employers must ensure the temperature in all workplaces inside buildings is “reasonable” during working hours. This means providing reasonable comfort without the need for special clothing.

The Approved Code Of Practice (ACOP) says workrooms should normally be at least 16°C for most types of work, and at least 13°C for work involving considerable physical effort. For most kinds of work, the acceptable range of thermal comfort lies between 16°C and 24°C.

If you feel that your workplace environment is not compliant with these regulations, then our advice is, in the first instance, make contact with your GMB Workplace Health & Safety Representative. In the absence of a GMB Health & Safety Representative, then raise your concern with your employer, whilst at the same time inform the GMB union on any of the contact details contained in this exclusive GMB members e-newsletter and we will be only too happy to assist you as part of your membership service delivery.
